Back To School Fairs Are Free!
You and your kids can hit one of four free “Back To School Fairs” between now and the first day of school. In fact, there’s one coming up this weekend at The Boulevard Mall on Maryland Parkway. Additionally, they will even have free on-site immunizations at this one. The first fair will take place this Saturday, July 15th, from 11am to 3pm.
As a matter of fact, you can visit over thirty booths while you’re there. For instance, community agencies such as the YMCA, The Boys and Girls Club of Southern Nevada, First Nevada, and the After School All Stars will all be sponsoring booths. In addition, Clark County School District representatives will also be on hand to answer questions. So, if you have questions about registration, immunizations, learning opportunities or enrollment, make plans to attend.
Kids Back In School Soon; Fairs Next Four Saturdays
The “Cox Back To School Fairs” will take place over the next four Saturdays. As has been noted, Saturday July 15th, 11am-3pm at The Boulevard Mall. Secondly, Saturday, July 22nd, 11am-3pm at the Galleria at Sunset. Thirdly, Saturday, July 29th, 11am-3pm at Meadows Mall. There will be free on-site immunizations at Meadows Mall. Finally, Saturday, August 5th, 9am-1pm at Downtown Summerlin.
It is important to realize that Cox Communications presents these events. However, they are set up with Clark County School District. Other major sponsors include Clark County Credit Union and Immunize Nevada. You can visit the Cox Knowledge College website for more information.
If your organization, business, or agency would like to participate in the upcoming fairs, call 702-545-1084. Or, you can email Brittani.Johnson@cox.com. The countdown to the first day of school has begun!
Things We All SHOULD Have Learned In High School
Did we actually learn anything of use in high school? I mean, real life skills?
High school is that place where we are supposed to learn everything we are going to need in life, right? It’s supposed to be the place where we start finding ourselves, and figure out what it is we want to do with the next fifty, or so, years of our lives.
Most high school's curriculum do a decent job with basic math and literacy. But a lot of people graduate high school, and then spend the next several years slowly realizing, "Holy crap - high school left me totally unprepared for real life!"
How do credit cards really work? What does buying a house involve? Down payment, homeowners insurance, property tax - what??? And you still don't know that you can't wash the whites with everything else!
There’s a reason the term “Adulting" has come to be loathed. So many of us leave school and go out into the world, only to discover we were never taught some of the basic life skills that we need, to simply be successful people.
But this goes beyond basic how to's, addition, subtraction, and dangling participles (look it up).
Sometimes you need more than bare-bones training. You need the context, and soft skills that are not found anywhere in textbooks. Very luckily, we live in a world that allows us to somewhat take control of our education, and continued lifelong learning.
Schools have a tall order when it comes to preparing kids for adulthood. These are some basic life skills that we SHOULD be able to fit in somewhere, so that kids have them at least by the time they leave home. But alas - NO.
Here are several things you should’ve learned in high school, but most likely didn’t. Thank god for YouTube - I think you'll like these!
