The Vegas Golden Knights celebrated Nevada Day and honored our local heroes on First Responders Day at T-Mobile Arena Friday afternoon by posting a convincing 4-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.
Goalie Logan Thompson stopped all 29 shots directed at him to record his second shutout of this young season. This was the Vegas Golden Knights third victory in-a-row, as they upped their record to a division leading 7-2.
According to an article posted by Gordon Weigers on the Golden Knights website on NHL.com, the home team opened the scoring late in the first period with a power play goal by Chandler Stephenson, who skated out from behind the net and threaded it through Ducks' goalie Josh Gibson's pads to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Vegas's special teams went to work again in the second period as Golden Knights originals William Karlsson and Reilly Smith teamed up for a short-handed goal to make it 2-0. That marker was Smith's 100th goal as a member of the Vegas Golden Knights.
Karlsson would add to his stats later in the period, deflecting a slap shot from the point past Gibson to give the team a 3-0 lead. Then Nicholas Roy would pitch in with a beautiful breakaway goal near the end of the second to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 4-0 lead heading into the final frame.
Thompson would clamp down in the third, much to the delight of the 18,000+ fans in attendance on Nevada Day and First Responders Day.
The Golden Knights will finish up this homestand with a 5:00pm start on Sunday evening against the Winnipeg Jets at T-Mobile Arena. Go Knights Go!
