In recent years, meal kit delivery service has become very popular. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people were isolated at home and did not go grocery shopping. At the same time, others feel these services are much more convenient, especially if you don't enjoy cooking or grocery shopping. However, a recent study finds that you could be paying double for your meal kit delivery service.

Study Finds You Could Be Paying Double For Meal Kit Delivery Service

If you use a meal kit delivery service for one or more meals a week, that’s great. They are very convenient. In addition, most have easy to follow directions if you don’t enjoy cooking.

Although you may expect to be paying a premium for this convenience, many people using these services are paying double what the ingredients would cost at your neighborhood grocery store.

A recent study conducted by the team at FinanceBuzz.com reveals that you can expect to pay twice as much for the ingredients delivered to your home compared to shopping for them yourself.

Meal Kit Delivery Service Prices Compared To Walmart Prices

FinanceBuzz.com studied the six most popular meal kit delivery services including Purple Carrot, Home Chef, Blue Apron, HelloFresh, Dinnerly, and EveryPlate. Except for Purple Carrot, which is 100% vegetarian, they compared ten different meals and cuisines from each website. Chicken, beef, pork, and vegetarian meal kits were included in this study.

Then, they compared those prices to Walmart prices, since they’re the nation’s largest grocery store chain. Of course, if you do not do your shopping at Walmart, the comparison results would vary.

Overall, when comparing ingredient costs for all six meal kit delivery services, you’re paying anywhere from 51% to 64% more on average.
