Ability Center Changing Fitness For People With Disabilities
If you or someone you know has a disability and can’t find a good fitness program in Las Vegas, there is a local nonprofit that can help.
The Ability Center is the only gym in Southern Nevada for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Their mission is to enhance the natural ability of those with physical, mental, and developmental disabilities, empowering those individuals in the process. To aid in the mission, the organization has created a Sensory Fitness Center, sponsored by Aristocrat Gaming. This unique gym offers guests a one-of-a-kind experience with coaching and equipment developed especially for those with diverse abilities.
Now the Ability Center has launched a groundbreaking initiative called Friday Night Fitness. The initiative celebrates ability and helps to unlock the full potential of people with diverse abilities through adaptive fitness programs. Called Friday Night Fitness, it works in partnership with Betty’s Village. Which is Opportunity Village’s first residential community for people with diverse abilities.

The weekly fitness classes occur every Friday night at Betty’s Village. Each class invites guests to actively participate in an engaging experience, that fosters fun and joy in an enthusiastic and encouraging atmosphere. Additionally, the classes serve to build a supportive community for individuals with disabilities to connect with each other and grow.
Through the safety and positivity of Friday Night Fitness classes, those with diverse abilities are encouraged to explore new skills and enhance their fitness levels. They’re also empowered to make new social connections, which contributes to their over all well-being.
The Ability Center’s founder, Chris Salas, is passionate about the work they are doing at Betty’s Village. And invites volunteers to come out and dance with his clients at Friday Night Fitness. Salas also invites the community to join their mission on social media with the hashtag #AbilityNotDisability. For more information, visit AbilityCenterNV.org.
