Disney has announced that the famed 60-minute concert performed by the Beatles on top of their company’s London headquarters on Jan. 30, 1969, will be screened in IMAX theaters on Jan. 30. The show, dubbed The Beatles: Get Back — The Rooftop Concert, is in honor of the concert's anniversary.
Some of the footage was used in the new three-part Beatles miniseries, The Beatles: Get Back, directed by Peter Jackson. The IMAX showing will feature a Q&A with Jackson.
“I’m thrilled that the rooftop concert from The Beatles: Get Back is going to be experienced in IMAX, on that huge screen," Jackson said in a statement. "It’s The Beatles’ last concert, and it’s the absolute perfect way to see and hear it.”
The Beatles: Get Back — The Rooftop Concert will be “optimized for IMAX screens, digitally remastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Remastering) technology,” according to a release. The Get Back documentary is also currently streaming on Disney+, and will be available on Blu-ray and DVD in the U.S. on February 8, 2022. No word yet on if they will release a live album of the legendary performance.
