The Doobie Brothers are eyeing 2018 for the release of some new music, the group's first since 2010.

Multi-instrumentalist John McFee tells us the process has already started, in fact:

"We just, within the last few months we went into my studio and cut, like, four new songs to try to get started. We're looking to make a new, get a new project going and hopefully get it out probably sometime early next year...But we already started on it; Like I said, we cut four tracks already."

McFee adds that two of the new songs were written by Tom Johnston, and the other two by Patrick Simmons. The Doobies' last album, 2014's Southbound, featured country-flavored covers of the group's hits, while its last set of original material, World Gone Crazy, came out seven years ago. The resulting album will mark the Doobies' first with Little Feat keyboardist Bill Payne as a full-time member of the band.

The Doobies are currently on the road with Chicago, while McFee is also making a new album with is pre-Doobies band Clover, which features Huey Lewis, Elvis Costello and others.
