Happy Las Vegas PRIDE!
It’s time to celebrate love in our amazing community.
This season, Las Vegas has a plethora of amazing events to honor, pay respects, raise awareness or help the LGBTQIA community in Southern Nevada.
The first Gay PRIDE Celebration in Las Vegas took places throughout the month of May and June in 1983. These events were the joint effort of the Gay Academic Union, the Metropolitan Community Church, and Nevadans for Human Rights, according to Las Vegas PRIDE’s website. On May 7, the University of Nevada Las Vegas held the First Annual Gay PRIDE Banquet and Awards Ceremony in the student union’s Grand Ballroom.
According to the organization’s website, the Second Gay PRIDE Celebration’s theme was “Unity and More in ’84.” The name pays homage to the year that the celebration took place, which was on May 4-5, 1984.
Since then, this celebration has evolved and grew to become the celebration that symbolizes equity, love, peace and unity.
Aside from the amazing events that will be happening throughout the valley this and next month, the fabulous annual Las Vegas Night PRIDE Parade is happening Oct. 7 in Downtown Las Vegas. The parade is FREE to attend and starts at 7 p.m.
The parade main stage can be found at the intersection of 4th Street and Bridger Avenue. Come hungry because there will be beverage stations, food trucks and exhibitors at the official Block Party on 4th Street.
The celebration for the LGBTQ+ community will continue beginning at noon the following day, Saturday, Oct. 8 at Craig Ranch Regional Park. Entertainment is scheduled throughout the day and mainstage headline entertainment begins at 7 p.m. with Laganja Estranja. Madison Rose and festival headliner DRAMA Duo.
“We are so excited for the 2022 Las Vegas PRIDE Parade Downtown and to be back at Craig Ranch Park for the PRIDE Festival,” said Las Vegas PRIDE Board President Brady McGill. “This year’s theme, Beautiful Tomorrow, speaks to the resilience of the LGBTQ+ community and the bright future we all have in Las Vegas.”
