Paul McCartney Had a Deal With John Lennon to Limit George Harrison’s Songwriting

The trailer for the new Peter Jackson-helmed documentary The Beatles: Get Back was released yesterday (October 13), and it covers George Harrison's brief exit from the band during the making of Let It Be largely due to him being omitted from the songwriting process.

In his expansive interview with The New Yorker, Paul McCartney touches on Harrison's frustrations and admitted that he and John Lennon did keep him from the songwriting process.

McCartney said, "I remember walking through Woolton, the village where John was from, and saying to John, ‘Look, you know, it should just be you and me who are the writers.’ We never said, ‘Let’s keep George out of it,’ but it was implied."

Fans will get to see significantly more on this and other happenings during the making of Let It Be when the three-part The Beatles: Get Back premieres on Disney+ on November 25, 26 and 27.

As noted in a statement went the trailer was released, "The docuseries is compiled from nearly 60 hours of unseen footage shot over 21 days, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969, and from more than 150 hours of unheard audio, most of which has been locked in a vault for over half a century. Jackson is the only person in 50 years to have been given access to this Beatles treasure trove, all of which has now been brilliantly restored."
