As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Kansas City Chiefs this Super Bowl on February 7th, the CDC has offered suggestions on how to safely enjoy the game.

They suggest the safest way to enjoy the Super Bowl with others is to watch together virtually.

If one wishes to host a virtual Super Bowl party, the CDC offers the following suggestions:

  • Wear clothing or decorate your home with your favorite team’s logo or colors.
  • Make appetizers or snacks with the people you live with to enjoy while watching the game and share the recipes with your friends and family.
  • Start a text group with other fans to chat about the game while watching.

Non-virtual party options could include an outdoor viewing party and participants are encouraged to sit 6 feet apart, especially if they are not within one’s household.

Since cheering, yelling and screaming can spew pathogens, including the COVID virus, the CDC suggests the following:

Clap, stomp your feet, or bring (or provide) hand-held noisemakers instead.

Food sharing can be a hot bed for germs so the CDC recommends limiting traffic in the food preparation areas, frequent hand washing, prepackaged single serve condiments, and having one person designated to serve the food. Another option suggested is guests bringing their own food to serve to their own household members.

Masks should be worn and surfaces should be frequently disinfected. Music and television volume should be kept low to avoid necessitating the need to shout.

Anyone sick or recently exposed to COVID should refrain from coming to the Super Bowl Party. If any of the above rules aren’t followed, remember not to yell or shout…..an emphatic foot stomp might convey your frustration in a safer manner.
