Sammy Hagar Said He Passed On Recording This Hit Song in the ’70s

Sammy Hagar has a number of hits to his name, but he almost had one more in the '70s as a solo artist but he passed on it.

In a new interview with Jim O'Brien from WCSX's Big Jim's House, Hagar said he was originally offered to record "Night Moves," which was written by Bob Seger who went on to record the song which served as the title track on his 1976 studio album with the Silver Bullet Band.

"John Carter, who was the A&R guy for Capitol Records, who had signed Bob Seger and he signed me. On my second record [1977's Sammy Hagar aka: "The Red Album"]...he sent me 'Night Moves' and said, 'I want you to record it,'" said Hagar. "I said, 'It's great. I love it. But, I mean, I can't record a Bob Seger song that's a hit. What does Bob think about this?' He said, 'Bob doesn't want to do it either.' And I said, 'Oh, man. Get out of here.' And then Bob ended up doing it, and now I wish I would have."

Hagar added, "I mean, I didn't have a hit with two or three more albums, three or four more years, while Bob took off. He got the jump on a man!"
