Nevada is excited for Burning Man. The festival is right around the corner -- Aug. 27 through Sept. 4.

As Burning Man approaches, the excitement is building across the Burning Man community, which literally spans from the deserts of Nevada, right on across the country.

History Of Burning Man:

I happened to be living in San Francisco many, many years ago - 1986 - when the first Burning Man came to be.

Burning Man’s annual fire ceremony was created by Larry Harvey and Jerry James in 1986. For the next four years, the fire party was held at Baker Beach in San Francisco, according to the festival's website.

In 1990, Park police stepped in to stop the burning of the statue. This changed Burning Man, and the event evolved in a new location, new dates, and the beginning of a new meaning for the celebration.

Truly Experiences has gathered some facts and figures on Burning Man.

In 2022, 80,000 attended Burning Man. A little different from the approximate 20 people in attendance in 1986. However if you were near Baker Beach, you could see that man burning!

"25% of participants were first timers in 2022, with the remaining 75% being regulars", says Truly Experience. It's a really cool celebration of art, love, and dreams, and if you went in the early years, especially, chances are you've gone back at least once.

Nevada residents are always very excited about Burning Man - probably because it's in our own backyard.

What Is Burning Man Really About?

Being from Reno, now living in Las Vegas, Burning Man has been a huge event for me, and my friends for many years. It's hugely popular and quite an experience.

Although a lot has changed over the years, and many say it is too big now, there is true meaning surrounding it. Burning Man. co-founder Larry Harvey wrote the 10 Principles of Burning Man in 2004.

The rules weren't aimed at changing behavior or how people should act. They were created as a reflection of the community’s culture as it had developed since the beginning of Burning Man.

From learning about the 10 principals of Burning Man to even attending the event, it's an experience like no other. Below are photos of some of the Burning Man Art (and my own good times) that has made its way to Reno and other Nevada cities.

I dedicate this article to my dear friend Dana Mason, who went to Burning Man every year she could, and epitomized the Burning Man principals. Rest in peace Little D.

Radical Inclusion

Burning Man welcomes and respects everyone. You feel that the minute you enter the festival.

Gifting

It's all about giving at Burning Man. Nothing of value necessarily - just giving of yourself, and expecting nothing in return.

Decommodification

Burning Man is definitely NOT about commercialism, and exploitation. No corporate machines at this event.
