Whenever I do shots, it really doesn’t end well. However, I absolutely love sipping on a smooth-drinking shot of tequila every now and then. Hey, it’s National Tequila Day, so let’s order up a round!
National Tequila Day: How Did This All Begin
This is actually an international holiday that we also celebrate here in the U.S.A. Did you know that a form of tequila has been made by humans for thousands of years? That’s according to DaysOfTheYear.com. First thing to remember is that authentic tequila is derived from the blue agave plant. In addition, to really be “official,” at least 51% of the liquor must be made from that native Mexican plant. If you want to sip on high-end tequila, then you’ll want one of the more expensive versions. Those are usually made with 100% blue agave.
National Tequila Day was first recognized by the Mexican government in 2018, and now we all get to celebrate this traditional liquor. It is important to realize that tequila is similar to other alcoholic beverages such as champagne, cognac, or bourbon. Particularly, it must be made in a specific region of Mexico. Not to mention, there is actually a town in the state of Jalisco in Mexico named Tequila. There are other communities in this region of Jalisco that are also allowed to distill authentic tequila. Specifically, those cities include Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas.
How Do You Like Your Tequila?
Undeniably, tequila lovers will generally order a smooth-drinking shot on which to sip. That’s the best way to actually taste this Mexican liquor. However, others prefer mixing their tequila in delicious and refreshing cocktails. For that reason, it’s good to know that tequila does mix very well with food and with flavored drinks.
