New Orleans –  The Big Easy! Perhaps now we know why.

A new study finds New Orleans is the number one new home for herpes. 20.4% of people who were tested in New Orleans tested positive for it.  That’s one in five, and about 30% higher than the national average of 15.7%.

Here’s a list you DON’T want your city on:  The website STDCheck.com looked at HERPES rates in 34 different metropolitan areas.  Sadly, Las Vegas isn’t too far down the list but we are NOT number one! *whew*

Salt Lake City is number 2, at 19.2%.  Cincinnati number 3, 19.1% 4.Charlotte, 19%, 5. Orlando, 19%, 6. San Francisco, 7. Las Vegas, 8. St. Louis, 9. Portland, Oregon, 10. Dallas-Fort Worth.

New Orleans could be close to having a public health crisis due to the high spread of genital herpes in the city. “We cannot stress enough that sexually active people use protection to avoid contracting an STD,” says Dr. David Jayne, the Medical Director of STDcheck.com, in a media release.
