Las Vegas History:

On May 15th, 1905, Las Vegas was officially founded as a city! It was 110 acres of land that eventually became downtown. This was the start of the creation of Clark County, Nevada in 1909. In 1911 the county incorporated it into the city.

A group of developers were looking to build a railroad stop between Salt Lake City, Utah and Los Angeles, California. A railroad stop in the middle of the desert.

The city’s name is derived from the Spanish word “Vegas” which means meadows. It was intended as a green oasis in the middle of the desert. Well it turned into more than that!
