Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world! The home of the famous strip, filled with hotels, lights, casinos, and more! Las Vegas isn’t all just gambling and fun. The city offers so much more like shopping, sports entertainment, dining, and much more! Because of all that Las Vegas has to offer, it also makes for some pretty amazing facts you might not have known!

There are so many facts about Las Vegas you probably didn’t know, so here are just a few facts to store in your brain for a rainy day!

 

Las Vegas History:

On May 15th, 1905, Las Vegas was officially founded as a city! It was 110 acres of land that eventually became downtown. This was the start of the creation of Clark County, Nevada in 1909. In 1911 the county incorporated it into the city.

A group of developers were looking to build a railroad stop between Salt Lake City, Utah and Los Angeles, California. A railroad stop in the middle of the desert.

The city’s name is derived from the Spanish word “Vegas” which means meadows. It was intended as a green oasis in the middle of the desert. Well it turned into more than that!

    Las Vegas is home to about 2,839,000 people! So if you do the math, that means Las Vegas is home to 597,250 slot machines! And just like the Vegas population that is growing, so are the hotels. That means more slot machines!

  • Home To The Worlds Largest Gold Nugget

    If you’re in to gems, diamonds, or gold, then you’re in luck when coming to Las Vegas! Vegas is home to the largest golden nugget in the world! And of course it can be found at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, in Downtown, Las Vegas!

  • The Sphinx At Luxor Is Bigger Than The Real Sphinx

    The world famous Luxor Hotel is known for their Egyptian themed hotel! From the Pyramid shaped hotel to the giant Sphinx fronting the hotel. The sphinx is actually bigger than the original!

  • The Eiffel Tower At Paris Hotel Was Built Smaller Than It Should Have Been

    Unlike the Sphinx at Luxor, which is larger than the actual Sphinx, The Paris Hotel Eiffel Tower is not the same size or bigger than the real Eiffel Tower in Paris. But when building the hotel, the intent was to make the Eiffel Tower the same size as the real one.

  • Fremont Street In Downtown Las Vegas Was The Very First Paved Street In Vegas

    There are hundreds of roads in Las Vegas but the very first paved road was Fremont Street in Downtown. Now it’s still a road to some point, then turns into a tourist attraction with light shows, video shows, entertainment and more!
