Where Did The Cheeseburger Come From:
Before we get to the good stuff, we must first thank Lionel Sternberger for the invention of the cheeseburger.
According to the How Stuff Works website, the legend is that Lionel was working at his father's roadside stand in California, and he burnt a hamburger. So he decided to throw some cheese on it, and basically cover up his mistake. Like flipping the couch cushion - only his mistake is now one of the world's favorite foods.

What is America's favorite cheese on a cheeseburger? Rachel Ray says that the number one cheese is American Cheese. Coming in at number two is cheddar. Don't argue with Rachel!
As someone who cooks, she is actually spot on. The melting quality of both cheeses make them perfect for cheeseburgers.
