Addams Family lovers can officially rejoice! Netflix just announced that the Wednesday series will be back for a second season. The wildly popular series was, by only its third week of running, the second most watched English language series on the streaming platform. And it landed the spot of seventh most popular show on Netflix in all of last year. So renewal was inevitable. And we’re excited about what season two will bring.

This is in no small way thanks to the uber talented Jenna Ortega. The budding young actress who plays Wednesday Addams has been praised for her performance by fans and critics alike. And with good reason. She is nothing shy of awesome in this role. She brings everything you’d want Wednesday Addams to have, and so much you didn’t know you needed. It will be hard for the next generation of actors to fill the shoes of Ortega in this performance.

We had some other pleasant surprises in season one. Most notably a few familiar faces. Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Adams. The hilarious Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester. And the highlight of this show’s cameos: Christina Ricci. Tim Burton asked her personally to come to the show and play a supporting role opposite her former character.

Though the other members of the Addams Family occasionally show up in the script, they don’t stay in the scene long. A rumor has it that will be even more true in season two. The writers really want to keep the focus more on Wednesday’s life more than her dynamic with the other family members. And we couldn’t agree more.

So, of course, since we’re obsessed with this new show, we’re going full fan girl to find out all the fun facts about the new series. Here are our faves. – Wendy

  • 1. The show was filmed in Romania.

    Cantacuzio Castle, Busteni, Romania

The building that was used for Nevermore Academy is Cantacuzino Castle in Bușteni, Romania. Other landmarks in Romania were also used for the series. The entire town of Jericho, however, was creating at a film studio in Romania.

  • 2. Ortega wouldn't talk to Christina Ricci about Wednesday.

During filming, Ortega avoided talking to Ricci about the character because she didn’t want to be influenced by Ricci‘s choices. Ortega wanted to make it unique to her.

  • 3. Emma Myers first auditioned for the role of Wednesday.

Myers came for Wednesday, but she left with the role of the adorable roomie Enid. And we absolutely adore her in it. Everyone loves an Underdog…or Underwolf.

  • 4. If you recognized this face...

…then you’ve probably seen Garfunkel and Oates. Riki Lindhome, who plays the therapist Dr. Valerie Kinbott is half of that comedy duo.

  • 5. Ortega had to learn a lot of new skills for the role.

Including fencing, canoeing, archery, playing cello and speaking German. Between the fast-paced filming schedule and all the practices, Ortega was very stressed with the demands of this role.

  • 6. The whole cast probably hates canoeing now.

The canoe racing scene involved canoe lessons taken by the whole cast. That included about a dozen stuntmen and an hour practice every day, sometimes starting at 5:30 a.m.

  • 7. Ortega did her own choreography for THAT dance.

Someone has finally come along to take the crown from Uma Thurman for her Pulp Fiction dance. And her name is Jenna Ortega. Ortega choreographed this whole thing. She took her influence from 1980’s goth dance footage. As well as the work of Bob Fosse and Siouxsie Sioux. If anyone needs me, I’ll be in front of my full-length mirror practicing this.
