It’s official. The Powerball jackpot is now the largest in United States history. It’s hard to believe but there was again no winner in Saturday’s drawing. The jackpot is now up to $1.9billion. The next drawing is tonight, and if someone wins, they’ll get the pot in thirty installments over the next 29 years.

Of course, many people who do win don’t want to wait for payments and instead choose to get paid all at once in a lump sum. Even though it’s significantly less money, it’s still amounts to just shy of $930million before taxes for tonight’s drawing. The chance of someone winning the jackpot tonight is one in 292.2 million. It’s hard to do because all six balls (five white balls and the Powerball red) have to be matched up with the lottery ticket.

The current jackpot smashes the record for largest jackpots ever. The previous record was made in 2016 when it was won and shared by three people, in California, Tennessee and Florida. And the last jackpot won in Powerball was on August 3 of this year. There have been 39 drawings since then with no winners. Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night. And the jackpot keeps growing until someone wins.

The odds of winning any prize at all is much better than winning the Powerball jackpot, at 1 in 24.9. That makes it worth the cost of a ticket for many. For Las Vegas residents though, it’s not as simple as just buying a ticket. Because our jurisdiction prevents us from selling lottery tickets, locals have to travel to surrounding cities to buy a ticket.

If you’re looking to get into tonight’s drawing, maybe consider getting a lottery ticket from one of these nearby cities. They’re all less than a 2-hour drive from Las Vegas (we used the station address on Durango as the starting point). Tonight’s drawing will be at 10:59 EST.
