It was a day of fun, amazing food and celebration at Desert Breeze Park with the annual Tacos and Tamales festival!
96.3 KKLZ and Clark County Recreation and Parks transformed Desert Breeze Park into a fiesta that showcased Las Vegas' local food trucks, vendors and artists.
The day started with local and out-of-town bands warming up the crowd, injecting beautiful melodies into the festival atmosphere. People were dancing, eating and simply enjoying themselves amid the festival.
Across the park, grills were hot and sizzling. Chefs could be seen slicing and cooking up tender carne asada, pastor, cochinita pibil, and other amazing meats for items like tacos, burritos, nachos and more.
There were empanadas, elotes, aqua refrescas and other amazing Latino cuisine items. There was also soul food, sweet treats like cotton candy and other traditional carnival foods like funnel cakes and sugar-packed lemonade.
Lucha libre was entertaining for the entire family. From the theatrics to the actual wrestling technique, the talented fighters from Lucha Libre Las Vegas knew how to put on an entertaining show.
Artists did live painting demonstrations throughout the park. A corridor of the festival was dedicated to local artists and other vendors. The hallway of beautiful artwork and artisanal items proved that Las Vegas is an incubation of wonderful creativity.
Reggae band The Ghetto on Phyre were the first to perform. After that, Ska band Blanco y Negro played their music for the energetic crowd, who started a dancing circle.
People danced and showcased "skanking" dance moves. "Skanking" is a type of dance that is usually done with ska, reggae or punk music.
Los Rakas and La Pobreska then performed after. These bands electrified the crowd, and people didn't stop dancing. People were dancing so much that a cloud of dust formed over the crowd. The last act to go on was the Voodoo Glow Skulls, who closed out the night on an equally as exciting note.
We thank everyone who came out to Tacos and Tamales Festival! It was a beautiful and tasty day for the community. And we're not sure who said this, but we liked this piece of advice: “Live everyday like it’s Taco Tuesday.”
