The STRAT Hotel Honors Lives Lost On 9/11 With Annual Climb

This weekend, the STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower honored the lives lost during 9/11 with their annual climb. Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the tragic 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon in 2001. 2,977 people lost their lives that day, usatoday.com reported. 2,753 of those lives were at the Twin Towers and 184 at the Pentagon. The final 40 were the passengers on Flight 93, which crash landed in Pennsylvania after civilians tried to overtake hijackers on the plane. The tragedy continues for the families of about 1,10o victims who have not yet been identified, usatoday.com reported. That's about 40 percent of the people lost. DNA testing is ongoing in attempts to name those individuals and bring closure to their families. USA Today quoted the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner regarding the investigation. This past Saturday in Las Vegas, many gathered at the STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower on the Las Vegas Strip to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. More than 340 active firefighters, police, EMT and military personnel gathered at the bottom of the STRAT Tower in the early hours of the morning. Together they climbed the 1,455 steps to the top of the STRAT. The firefighters were in full gear. And each climber wore a lanyard showing a photo of a fallen firefighter, representing those who were lost that day. The total number of firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11 was 343, usatoday.com reported. Just before the climb, there was an Honor Guard presentation and moment of silence.
