Vegas Golden Knights Get Some Help: Meet The Newest Members Of The Realm
If you follow the Vegas Golden Knights as closely as I do, then you know the injury bug has hit them. This Stanley Cup championship team is missing several key players. So General Manager Kelly McCrimmon made a trade today (March 5, 2024) to bring in some help for the forward lines. Meet Anthony Mantha, the newest member of The Realm.
Meet Anthony Mantha: The Newest Member Of The Realm
First of all, this guy is big. I mean really big when it comes to hockey players. He’s 6’5” and weighs in at over 230 pounds. So, he adds much needed size and strength to the Vegas lineup. Secondly, Mantha is having one of the best seasons in his nine-year professional career. He’s joining The Realm as one of only two 20-goal scorers this season for his former team, the Washington Capitals.
Here’s another interesting key as to why McCrimmon chooses to acquire Mantha from the Capitals before the trade deadline expires. He has played with at least three of the Vegas Golden Knights before. In fact, Mantha, Mark Stone, Shea Theodore, and Jonathan Marchessault all played for Team Canada at the 2019 IIHF World Championships. They won a silver medal together. Hopefully, that experience will help Mantha adjust to his new team quicker.
Will Vegas Make More Trades Before The Deadline?
This year’s NHL trade deadline is looming. It will be here before you know it. In fact, no more trades will be allowed after 12 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday, March 8th. So now that McCrimmon has dipped his toe into the trade waters, is there another big move coming our way?
In order to acquire Anthony Mantha, the Golden Knights give up some future picks to the Washington Capitals. In fact, they traded away a 2nd round pick in the 2024 draft and a 4th round pick in the 2026 draft. That’s according to an article by India Shay on the Vegas Golden Knights website.

Yes! GM Kelly McCrimmon Makes Another Big Trade
Then on Wednesday, March 6th, Vegas General Manager Kelly McCrimmon brought in another NHL veteran to shore up the defense. In fact, three-time Stanley Cup champion defenseman Alec Martinez may be out the rest of the season with a lower body injury. With that in mind, he traded for 27-year-old defenseman Noah Hanifan from the Calgary Flames.
This was part of a three-team trade which also involved the Philadelphia Flyers. Calgary gets a first round pick from Vegas along with defenseman Daniil Miromanov, and a conditional third-round pick. The Flyers get a fifth-round pick in the upcoming 2024 NHL Draft from the Golden Knights. That information comes from the Vegas Golden Knights website.
An expensive trade, but it appears it was necessary with all of the injuries to key players. Now, feel free to scroll down for more content which you may enjoy.
