"When my uncle was losing his vision in rural Korea during the 1970s, he had no idea where to turn. There were no support systems, no resources—just silence. It wasn’t until he traveled to the city of Seoul that he discovered the services that would transform his life. Today, we’re spotlighting an organization that offers that same lifeline to those living with vision loss right here in Southern Nevada."
May is Blind Awareness Month, and there’s no better time to introduce Blindconnect—Nevada’s only nonprofit dedicated to providing life skills training for blind and visually impaired residents. At the heart of this mission is Jean Peyton, who founded Blindconnect in 1998 after facing the reality of losing her sight and realizing how few resources were available.
Jean joined us to share the remarkable story behind Blindconnect’s founding, the evolution of its programs, and how her vision of an inclusive community is changing lives every day through their innovative facility, Angela’s House, located inside the RTC Mobility Training Center in Las Vegas.
Angela’s House: A One-of-a-Kind Resource
At the center of Blindconnect’s training efforts is Angela’s House, named in honor of a beloved member of the blind community whose spirit and determination embodied the very mission of the organization.
