Las Vegas is known for its dazzling entertainment and world-class dining, but behind the neon lights, thousands of local children face a daily struggle—hunger. More than 113,000 children in Clark County are food insecure, relying on school meals during the week but often going without food on weekends. That’s where Serving Our Kids steps in.
On February 6, Serving Our Kids will host its 3rd Annual Souper Bowl of Caring, an 18-hour telethon from 6:00 AM to 11:35 PM, in partnership with News 3 and The CW Las Vegas. The goal? To raise awareness and donations to ensure no child in Southern Nevada goes hungry.
I had the opportunity to speak with Laurie Tanakaya, CEO of Serving Our Kids, about the telethon and the nonprofit’s mission. Serving Our Kids currently provides 4,000 weekend meal bags each week to students at 97 schools across the valley. Each bag contains nutritious, easy-to-prepare food items that help bridge the gap until students can return to school meals on Monday.
The Souper Bowl of Caring will feature local entertainers, sports figures, and community leaders, who will answer phones and encourage donations throughout the day. The event serves as a reminder that even small contributions make a big impact—just a few dollars can provide a weekend’s worth of meals for a hungry child.
