Should kids be allowed to vote? Like your 16 year old. And what about your 5 year old. Do you think they should be allowed to vote?

Should Kids Be Allowed To Vote

In a very extensive YouGov poll, 20% of Americans think kids should be allowed to vote. And 13% of people support giving parents one additional vote for each child they have who is a minor.

Every election, the campaigns push to "get out the vote." they encourage everyone to let their voices be heard. But one group's voices that are not being heard: Babies. Well, unless you've flown recently. If you have, you probably think babies are being heard just fine.

There's a new poll out on voting, and it includes this fascinating statistic: 20% of Americans think kids "of all ages" should be allowed to vote. Now I don't know how this would work for YOUNG kids. Since they're just learning to color inside the lines, how would they be able to fill in a tiny bubble with a pen?

If Kids Are Allowed To Vote Won't They Just Vote For Their Parents Candidate

But here is another option: 13% of people support giving parents one additional vote for each child they have who is a minor. Oddly enough, those percentages are virtually the same between conservatives and liberals. Although folks 65 years old and older are not as hot on teens or little kids voting, or parents getting extra votes.

If parents DID get an extra vote for their kids, wouldn't that just be another vote for whichever candidates THEY like? Well, not necessarily.

If this happened, 53% of people say the parents would "always" or "usually" vote the same when voting on behalf of their young kids. But 19% say that would only be the case "sometimes."10% say the votes would only match "rarely," and 6% say they'd "never" be the same. Hmm, don't know if I believe this, but sure.

About 20% of parents said they would "always" or "usually" customize their kids' votes, to represent the best interests of their children. 33% say these "kids" votes would only be "sometimes" in the children's best interests, and 27% say they'd "rarely" or "never" be in their best interests. Hmm - so kids don't count, even though they have a vote?

Whether or not you lower the voting age - even to 16 - a whopping 78% of people think there should be more national programs to educate children and teens about the political process. *hand up* - AND ADULTS.

On the flip-side of all of this, 35% of people think the minimum voting age for national elections should be raised to 21. Seem unfair, since many 18, and even 16 years old's are working, and might like to have a voice - since they are also paying taxes.

Three Good Reasons Kids Should Be Allowed To Vote

It actually might be cool if kids could vote, though. Because I think they would probably vote to expand healthcare to cover cooties. And negative campaign ads would only allow candidates to call each other "poopy face!" And of course, whoever loses the election would get slimed, on national TV.

Get out the vote!

5 Great Happy Hours In Las Vegas: Keeping It Simple And Cheap

Where are the best happy hours in Las Vegas?

It's always five o'clock somewhere, right? Especially in Las Vegas. But when it comes to happy hour, let's face - you want a bargain. You want to save a little money on that drink, and those nachos.

Happy Hour Like A Las Vegas Local

The Las Vegas Strip isn’t exactly known for its bargains these days. Gone are the days of cheap drinks, and 99 cent shrimp cocktails. So let's leave the Las Vegas Strip, and be a true local.

There are some great happy hours in Las Vegas, and you don't have to go anywhere near the strip. Some of your favorite restaurants offer a great happy hour, that you may not have even known about.

In Las Vegas, restaurants with some of the best happy hour menus are no where near the Las Vegas Strip. They are in neighborhoods, strip malls, or your favorite brewery. Yes, of course, many resort restaurants have happy hours. But as a local, we're not going to the strip, or even necessarily a casino -unless we have to. Or, those cousins are visiting from Milwaukee, and they have to get a yard of margarita, and see the KISS street performers, in ass-less chaps.

Thank The US Navy For Happy Hour

You can thank the US Navy for Happy Hour. In the 1920s, after World War I, happy hours were periods of time on naval ships where sailors could participate in relaxing activities, so they could remove themselves from the toll of life at sea. Those activities were supposed to be morale boosting - mostly boxing, and other athletics.

Of course the US was in the midst of prohibition. But Americans got around that (shhhhh) by going to speakeasies to get a drink before dinner. Happy hour as we know it today!

Here Are 5 Great Happy Hours In Las Vegas

These are just 5 of the better happy hours in Las Vegas - at least some of my favorites. Remember though, happy hour deals change often, so be sure to check the restaurant’s website or social media for updates before popping in for a drink.

Las Vegas Brewing Company - 3101 North Tenaya Way

Great 'hoppy' hour specials include $5 LVBC drafts, $13 LVBC flights, $5 house wine, $6 well drinks. Sloppy Joe Sliders, fried pickles - that are AWESOME - and a really great "pubcuterie." I'm not the biggest beer drinker, but this place has some of the best beers in Las Vegas. Do a flight, and try a few!

The Spot - 8410 W. Desert Inn

The Spot has some GREAT food! And one of their favorites, and mine, is offered on their happy hour menu - their pork belly burnt ends. YUM!!!! Six chicken wings for $8. Happy hour is in the bar only, of course, and they do it from 3pm-6pm, AND again at 9pm-close.

Cheesecake Factory - 750 S. Rampart (several locations in Las Vegas)

Yes, the Cheesecake Factory. They have always had a great happy hour menu! Sliders, pot stickers, hot pretzel bites, spinach and cheese dip, fried zucchini, a happy hour burger, and tons more. Several delightful cocktails for $8.50, draft beers $4.95, bottled beer $3.95. Seriously - you can't go wrong! Try the fried zucchini - just like my grandma's!

Lazy Dog - Downtown Summerlin/1725 Festival Plaza Dr. (two locations in Las Vegas, and a new one on the way)

Lazy Dog is just a fun place overall - and you can bring your dog! Happy hour lettuce wraps, crispy brussels sprouts, buffalo cauliflower. $4 wine, $1 off their draft beers. Woof!

Echo & Rig Steakhouse - Tivoli Village/440 Rampart Boulevard

Echo & Rig is one of the best off strip steakhouses in Las Vegas, and in my opinion - still fairly reasonable. Their happy hour food menu is small, but mighty! A $3 Hotdog - the best hot dog ever! $4 Steak and egg, and Butcher fries with prime steak, homemade teriyaki, and scallions. Half off all draft & bottled beers, half off premium well liquor, $5 house wine, and always a $3 cocktail! It's great, but get there early, it gets busy!
