Group Therapy: Is It Okay To Give Kids A Sleep Aide
This was quite the session this morning, but in Group Therapy, one mother wanted to know if it was okay to give her kid a sleep aid? The Mike & Carla Morning Show thought this was an interesting situation for mom.
Mom was taking her 11 year old daughter to school and a friend commented on the girl’s pleasant disposition. The mother told her friend it’s because she gets plenty of sleep. The mom let it slip that she had been giving her daughter an all natural sleep aid.
Is It Okay To Give Your Kids A Sleep Aid
The friend was a little put off by this and now mom is questioning her parenting. Is this something that a parent should be doing for an eleven year old girl?
Now, according to an article by the Sleep Foundation, it does say that one sleep aid, Melatonin, is indeed all natural and has not found “significant side effects”.
So, in essence, the mom wanted to know if she should feel guilty for giving her daughter Melatonin? Most of those listeners texting in and even calling in, said that she should NOT!
At this point in time, it seemed to be helping her child get the necessary sleep needed. Her school work wasn’t suffering, she seemed to be in an up and positive mood as witnessed by the mother’s friend.
However, there was a caution by listeners that the parent should consult they’re doctor to see how long this should go on for.
We also come to find out that the mom wasn’t alone. Plenty of parents were admitting to doing the same for the sake of the child getting some well needed rest through the night.
Heck, even Carla Rea admitted to taking it for a time and then she was done. It was clearly an intense group therapy, but we think the mom shouldn’t feel guilty. Listen to the segment yourself and you decide…and enjoy!
