1 October Events To Honor Resilience and Remembrance
Seven years ago still feels like yesterday. Many of us can remember the feelings of uneasiness, fear and sadness. 1 October changed our city forever, but it will never take away our strength as a city.
To honor and commemorate the victims and memories from that tragic day, we’ve compiled a list of events to help heal, memorialize and remember.
1 October Events
Sunrise Remembrance Ceremony 2024
This annual 1 October Sunrise Remembrance Ceremony is one of the most powerful events of the year. This event takes place at the Clark County Government Center outdoor amphitheater in downtown Las Vegas. The Sunrise Ceremony honors the victims and those who were impacted by the event.
The event starts at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1. There will also be a 1 October Remembrance Exhibit in the Rotunda Gallery from Sept. 30 to Oct. 10.
The 1 October Remembrance Exhibit will feature a model of the “Forever One Memorial” and the Angels of Love displays created in remembrance of the first year after Route 91. There will also be a sculpture featuring “two glass butterflies with purple and orange wings entitled “El Camino Illuminado” (The Lighted Path) to represent those who have succumbed to their injuries in the years after the tragedy.”

Honoring Those Impacted by the Events of 1 October
The Canyon Ridge Christian Church will be honoring first responders and people who were affected by the shooting on Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The main speaking event will take place from noon to 2 p.m.
Carnell “Golden Pipes” Johnson will be singing and opening the memorial event. Travis Howze will be the keynote speaker. Howze is a former police officer, firefighter and dedicated advocate for first responders.
This event is about gratitude and appreciation. There will also be trained trauma counselors on site to help anyone who needs to talk.

Route 91 Human Chain
This is another powerful event. Starting at 9 p.m., The Route 91 concert site will be open to the families of the victims. Families can bring guests for support. The event will help create a human chain, representing strength and resilience from the tragedy.

For the lives that were lost and the ones that were forever changed, community members will join hands around the venue to remember the event that will forever be etched in our minds and hearts.
The Route 91 concert site will be open for visits exclusively for the families of the 58 individuals who lost their loved ones. Family members can bring in guests to support them, and the Resiliency & Justice Center will have on-site emotional support. Families can also sign up to hold their loved ones’ portrait, further showing the impact and importance of this event.
Vegas Stronger Fundraiser
Local tattoo and beauty artist Rylie Upshaw, owner of Upshaw.Ink is a Route 91 survivor. She now pays it forward by hosting a fundraiser. This fundraiser will take place on Oct. 5 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Beauty Collective located at 3370 NV-160 Suite 3, Pahrump, NV 89048.
There will be opportunities for tattoos, piercings, raffles and more. Proceeds will go toward the Quinton Robbins Play It Forward Foundation Inc.
“As a survivor of the tragic Route 91 shooting and now owner of my own business, I have decided to use the opportunities given to me to give back. Proceeds this year are going to Playitforward in honor of Quinton Robbins. I believe in the seven years since October 1st Vegas still continues to come back Vegas Stronger,” Rylie said on the Facebook event page.
