Beloved Downtown Las Vegas Venue Revives Gaming For 48 Hours Only
A spunky and beloved Downtown “hangout” spot will bring back gaming for two days. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Gold Spike and Oasis Hotel will be having two days of gaming.
The gaming license holder is Fifth Street Gaming, and the venue will hold the two days of gaming on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, the Review-Journal reports.
Why Does Gold Spike Have 2 Days Of Gaming?
According to Play USA when Gold Spike reopened in 2014, the business opened without gaming machines or tables. Downtown Project, owned by Tony Hsieh, still preserved the non-restricted Nevada gaming license for Gold Spike.
The property held its license due to having a grandfather status. The property obtained a gaming license before more restrictive laws were put into place. The property needs to host a two-day gaming event because the grandfather status can expire if gaming is gone for more than 24 months, the Review-Journal states.
The Las Vegas City Council meeting approved the property to have gaming on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Hopefully, they can bring back the famous Sexy Blackjack.
Future Of Gold Spike Uncertain As Property Gets Listed
The Tony Hsieh Estate and broker LOGIC Commercial Real Estate has listed the property for sale. There isn’t a listed price on the broker’s website. However, The Review-Journal reported that Hsieh bought the site for $22 million in 2013. The price has most likely increased in value since then. The gaming license’s perseverance will also add another layer of value to the property.
Many people remember when Gold Spike had the famous “$5 Sexy Blackjack.” At one point, it was even $3. But when Downtown Project took over the property, they did away with the in-house gaming. It was “goodbye” to sexy blackjack and hello to lifesize beer pong, Adult Connect 4, and fun arcade games.
Now, Gold Spike is a common hangout spot for fresh 21-year-olds, who are bar hopping around the neon playground of Downtown Las Vegas. It’s a fun place to take out-of-town visitors, and we’re excited to see other future plans for the bar/venue.
