Boy George’s Perfect 80s Mix Tape
It was a real honor having the icon Boy George on the show recently. Culture Club was one of the key acts to the soundtrack of the 80s back when we made mix tapes from songs on the radio. I asked George what songs would be on his ultimate Boy George ’80s mix tape.
Boy George told me he loved to make cassettes for friends and boyfriends that would tear their hearts out! He even burned CDs in the 90s. So I couldn’t wait to hear which 80s songs he’d put on his mix tape. Here were the 5 he came up with. It’s an awesome eclectic mix of new wave and pop that really shows Boy George’s wild personality.
Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams”
George started his mix tape with no hesitation with this 80s Q105 favorite. And this music video was a staple during the early days of MTV.
Furniture “Brilliant Mind”
George loves his new wave. This 1986 song might not ring a bell. It wasn’t a big hit here in the U.S. But it was featured in the movie “Some Kind of Wonderful” in 1987.
The Cars “Drive”
Many will best remember this one from Live Aid in 1985. It was the biggest charting single for the band when it came out in 1984.
