Group Therapy: Do Your Kids Walk To School
It’s seems that where the parents are both working early in the morning, would you let your kids walk to school? That was the topic of conversation in a session of “Group Therapy” on The Mike & Carla Morning Show!
It seems that mom is not keen on the idea with her two kids now going to different schools. The kids are 12 and 8…last year they went to the same school. But it’s a different story this year. And with both parents working, here in lies the problem.

On the other hand, dad says let the kids walk to school! He seems to think they’re old enough and everything will be fine. According to an article from ParentMap, it gives you guidelines and tips on allowing your kids to walk to school.
On The M&C Morning Show, listeners started texting and calling in with their concerns of this dilemma. Most of those that did chime in have been through this before and were willing to share.
It seems that since time have changed, most parents giving their view point would rather figure out something else than have them walk to school. Especially with the two going their separate ways this year.
The other thing was that maybe 8 years old might just be too young to walk to school on his own. But there were solutions offered in all this. Find a group of kids from the neighborhood to walk with. For both the 12 year old and the 8 year old.
One listener also suggested the “Safe Key” program if offered. Since the mom mentioned that, with the shortage of bus drivers, there is no school bus service in their area.
Others just said that with the way people drive in town, no way they would let their kids walk to school. Listen to the segment below and tell us what you think!
