Debbie Harry Acting In New Tribeca Short Film, ‘Catharsis’
Since she’s first and foremost a singer, it’s not often that fans see Debbie Harry acting. But the Blondie frontwoman has done it before. And again now with a lead role in a short film called Catharsis.
The film is one of the winning selections chosen for the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival. According to their website, the Tribeca Festival was started 2001 after the attack on the World Trade Center. It was founded by actors Robert De Niro (Cape Fear, Awakenings), Jane Rosenthal (Bohemian Rhapsody, The Irishman), and real estate investor Craig Hatkoff. Who started the movement to help revitalize the economy and culture in New York City after 9/11.
Debbie Harry Acting Role In 2024 Tribeca Film
The Tribeca Festival is held every spring in New York City and showcases a myriad of mediums in art. The core of the program, according to tribecafilm.com, is “feature and short films, highlighting politically, culturally and socially relevant films from diverse storytellers.”
This year, fans will see Debbie Harry acting in one of the chosen films. Called Catharsis, the 17-minute short film is about a dancer who struggles with anger management whose rage emerges while working with a psychotherapist. Co-written and directed by Brian Logvinsky, the film stars Debbie Harry acting opposite Harrison Ball, who plays the dancer.
In the film, Debbie Harry plays the dancer’s aunt who, according to variety.com, believes the dancer is struggling due to a family curse and encourages him to see the psychotherapist. The trailer is intense and shows a more serious side to Harry that fans don’t normally get onstage. Debbie Harry acting is very different than Debbie Harry singing. And this role just reminds fans of the range of her talent.
A clip of one of Harry’s scenes is on Logvinsky’s YouTube channel. You can watch it here. The short film will premiere at the Tribeca Festival 2024 on June 14.
