Bruce Springsteen made his triumphant return to touring with the E Street Band last night (March 19) in Phoenix.
Springsteen, of course, has taken a break from touring for the past six months due to peptic ulcer disease. In September 2023, he postponed a handful of tour dates that month in order to receive treatment. Before that, there were sporadic postponements due to a then-undisclosed illness and few details were divulged about said illness.
Weeks later, Springsteen then postponed all remaining 2023 tour dates until 2024. At that time, a statement was released saying, "Bruce Springsteen has continued to recover steadily from peptic ulcer disease over the past few weeks and will continue treatment through the rest of the year on doctor's advice. With this in mind, and out of an abundance of caution, all remaining 2023 tour dates for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will be postponed until 2024."
The break from touring clearly did Springsteen some good in many ways. Billboard noted, "The Boss was in top form from show opener 'Lonesome Day' and fully had his sea legs back by third song, 'No Surrender,' when he gave his first trademark shout out, 'C’mon, Steve!' beckoning for his brother-in-music for over half a century, Steven Van Zandt, to join him on the mic.
