Meals We Loved As Kids But Now They Are Just Weird: Hot Dogs In Everything

Food I Loved When I Was Might Just Be Fancy Now
A couple friends of mine and I got to talking about some of those childhood meals we thought were so delicious - at the time. But later we realized they are kind of weir now. Or that no one else ate those kind of meals. But were they really that weird?
When we were kids we would throw a lot of things together, that we wouldn't think of eating now. There have been several threads on Reddit having fun with this. And recently Buzzfeed readers chimed in, as well.
Hot Dogs In Everything
Ketchup sandwiches, frozen waffles with melted cheese. Kids who ate cut-up hot dogs in everything. I had friends who ate them in mac and cheese, spaghetti, scrambled eggs, rice. You name it - hot dogs!
Ketchup sandwiches. Yes, just ketchup and white bread. Because as kids, ketchup was the best thing ever! Some kids would add bologna or ham. You know, just for the extra sodium, I guess. I can't say that I really eat ketchup with anything, anymore.
I loved mustard, though! The movie Sling Blade made french fries and mustard a thing. But it was always a thing for this kid - and still is. I LOVE FRENCH FRIES WITH MUSTARD!
There Was That One Kid Who Might Have Created A Delicacy
Jelly on grilled cheese. I remember a kid I went to school with in elementary school named, Louis. He would bring that for lunch. But here's the thing - his mom would grill it in the morning, and he'd eat it several hours later. Never thought much of it then, but now it's a little gross, and weird. Because the cheese was all coagulated, and hard by the time he ate it. But now you can buy cheddar crisps at the store, so - who really was the weird one?
Spaghetti noodles with canned beans mixed in. That's it - noodles and beans! SOme of my young pals loved it! As a little Italian kid, spaghetti noodles were only used for spaghetti - that I put my grandma's or mom's amazing sauce on!
We used to dip school lunch french fries in applesauce, and that one kid would bring cream cheese and olive sandwiches. But see - THAT actually sounds good now. Fried baloney on white bread was also a fancy kid meal. Again - doesn't actually sound bad now...
Maybe We Were Ahead Of Our Time
As I look back on all of these foods, I have to wonder if we were just ahead of our time? Now there is bacon on donuts, in ice cream. Thanksgiving dinner in a carbonated soda! Ranch dressing ice cream, and chocolate covered bugs. So I guess some childhood food favorites could actually :be considered a delicacy" now, as the gourmet's say!
It seems like everyone has that favorite childhood meal, or food combo. Do you remember your favorite?
Ten Baby Boomer Complaints Younger Generations Agree With
Baby Boomer Complaints that younger generations agree with - what?
Younger people are always finding something wrong with the generations that came before them. You did it, I did it - I think we're actually required to blame the 'before us' generation for everything that's wrong.
In 2023, it's rare for different generations to agree on anything. Thoughts on music, parenting, finances, career paths, and a load of other topics are often just a world apart. Buzzfeed asked their own BuzzFeed Community to share some of the things they actually AGREE with older generations on, and some very valid points were made.
Some Of The Generational Agreements:
Boomers, and younger generations agree on several things. Like, remember when we had actual physical knobs, buttons, and dials on things?
Your oven should not be a touch screen. nor should your washer and dryer. Younger gens think buttons should still be on phones. There should be radio and temp control knobs in cars. Touch screens do not need to be on everything. It's not cool anymore!
Oh, and by the way "I don't want to have to download an app for everything." It's maddening! This from the mouths of younger generations as well. Too many apps on our phones.
Boomers Would Probably Agree That Younger Generations Got These Right:
I'll be the first to admit that there are several things that Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z got right. Alphas, take note:
Eating weed, instead of smoking it, seems to be the thing now. Bisexuality is accepted, which greatly increases your chances of sexy time this weekend. And FINALLY - not judging people by the color of their skin, gender, or sexual preference, but instead by the content of their old social media posts.
Here are 10 things Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z DO seem to agree on.
1. Always Bring Something With You To a Get Together
Always bringing something with you to a small get together, house warming, holiday party, etc. Don't just just show up empty handed and still drink their booze and eat their food. We've lost our manners in this regard. Even if it's just flowers, a bottle of wine, a store-bought dessert, fine - you contributed.

2. If There's No Parking, I'm Not Doing It!
Yep, we've all gotten lazy, and have less time. If we can't find parking - see ya!

3. I Don't Want To Do Everything Online?
One person in this discussions said, "I live in a place where internet connection is kind of bad most of the time and I usually have to fill out any forms at least twice because I lose connection. I'd rather just go and do the paperwork by hand, but nope - not allowed anymore. Gotta do everything online."

4. I Made A Reservation - Why Am I Waiting For A Table?
Isn't that the REASON we make reservations? Why am I waiting a half hour for a table??? I planned ahead so YOU could too, restaurant!

5. Concerts should start ON TIME!
Concerts should absolutely start on time! There are bands whose whole schtick is to make it a point of being arrogant, and starting an hour - at least - late. Really not fun standing crammed next to other people - who are now angry, because they have been waiting so long.

6. Music Is Too Loud
"Music everywhere is too damn loud!" Millennials say they have literally left a store because of the music being too loud.

7. Ghosting Sucks!
Ghosting stinks. I get things fade out sometimes, but don't just go radio silent on someone you've been talking to. I get sometimes you think you're saving their feelings by not saying 'I don't like you like that,' but that's so much better than not knowing. Don't be rude!

8. No phones at concerts!
Nothing else to say on this one. That's all. Carry On.

9. No Pets In Stores
Service animals, ok, but no pets in stores. One Buzzfeed post read: "I was in a crowded store this weekend and a woman was walking around with a Great Dane. There was no indication that he was a service animal of any kind. If anyone looked at her funny, she would say 'he’s allowed to be in here.' I heard her telling someone that he just loves to go shopping! I’m sure he was a gentle giant, but it was visibly making some people very uncomfortable." Not to mentions allergies, and animals that react - because you just never know.

10. Not All Food Needs To Be Gourmet
All generations agree: "Not all food needs to be 'gourmet,' 'deconstructed,' or 'elevated.' When I ask for spaghetti Bolognese, Caesar salad, or a sundae, it’s because that's what I want. I don’t want the chef’s own interpretation."
