According to Tinder, the first Sunday in January is "Dating Sunday." And it's the busiest day of the year for online dating.

Sunday Could Be Your Lucky Day

It's a new year - does that mean a new you? Is it time to get back out there in the dating world? Is this year the year you'll meet that someone special? Well, this Sunday could be your day!

No, it's not just the day that you should absolutely have your Christmas tree down by. It's also the most popular day for online dating. Tinder says that they see a big surge in people updating their bios, uploading photos, sending messages - and also responding to messages - on the first Sunday in January.

When it comes to responding to messages, Tinder said that people respond to messages 19 minutes faster on "Dating Sunday" than on any other Sunday of the year. And according to the Tinder Newsroom, peak time of day is 9pm to 10 pm.

A New Year Means A Fresh Start For Romance

They didn't say specifically why, but it's probably a mix of a few things: Fresh starts for the New Year, New Year's resolutions, and more available time after months of holidays,  gatherings, and being around other couples.

This isn't just Tinder, by the way. A few years back, someone from Match called "Dating Sunday" the "Super Bowl of dating apps."

With so many Mr. or Ms. Right's out there, I'd hate for you to waste your time on Mr. or Ms. Wrong. So here is my list of some phrases that are red flags on dating apps:

  • "Single and ready to mingle." No, no, no - it is not 1985!
  • "Looking for a loyal partner." This is a dating app, not a dog rescue.
  • "What have you got to lose?" Based on your dirty lowcut tank top, showing all of your your underarm hair - braided - my reputation for good taste.
  • "Send nudes." Let me guess - your first time on Christian-Mingle?
  • "I'd rather meet up in person than text." Spoken like every guy Keith Morrison says "kept to himself" on "Dateline".

Good luck to all in 2024, and may you all swipe right!
