Is Your Wi-Fi Signal Bad During The Holidays? Here’s Why!
During the holidays, everyone pulls out their decorations and sets them up. Inside, outside, and some people go a little overboard. But, putting out all those decorations in the house could be interfering with your Wi-Fi.
Why Is Our Movie Skipping?
You put up your Christmas tree! Lights, garland, tree topper, the works! Then you decide to put on the fire place, light up your tree, and turn on a nice holiday movie. But during the movie, it all of a sudden starts buffering and skipping. You get confused as to why it’s happening now, and you even have internet signal. Then you notice the signal strength is low. Why? Your decorations could be a big reason, according to Screen Beam.
Is This A New Issue?
If you’re wondering why it’s happening currently, it may have been happening for many holidays, but you didn’t realize it. Your router may be in your living room where your tree is also probably located. That is what is causing the disruption in your Wi-Fi.
Christmas lights of all kinds release electromagnetic radiation. It’s not very strong, but is enough to cause a disruption in the wi-fi and radio frequency. But it’s not just the lights. According to Komando, it’s the wires for the lights that cause more of an issue. And if you put those lights that flash and twinkle, you’re in for even more Wi-Fi disruption.
How To Prevent It
Aside from the obvious solution of not setting up holiday decorations like wreaths and a Christmas tree (we don’t want to do this), you can relocate your Wi-Fi router. You should put your router in a central location of your home, Screen Beam reports. Don’t put up your decorations right in front of it. You can also run a Wi-Fi test to make sure your router is in an optimal spot.
If you notice your Wi-Fi is lagging during the holiday seasons, these are the reasons why.
