Supporting A Losing Team Is Like Dating Taylor Swift With No Hit Song
Do you know what happens when you support a losing team year after year? Your heart is broken. It’s just like dating Taylor Swift only without a hit song!
You Don’t Give Up When Your Team Loses
I’ve been a Detroit sports fan since I was a little kid. The Detroit Tigers have been my favorite team for decades. I got to see Mark Fydrich (The Bird) pitch in Tiger Stadium when I was a little kid. It was one of the coolest games I have ever been to, and it was such a great memory with my parents and cousins.
I’ve always supported that old English D, and worn it proudly. A second place finish this year wasn’t bad, But since 2012 it seems they’ve been rebuilding. And prior to that, it was since 1984. Yes, they’ve been to the World Series eleven times, but still…
The Detroit Lions? Well, the last real playoff they saw was in 1991. In 2008 they didn’t win one game – not ONE! The Lions have been fairly mediocre for years. Even during those Barry Sanders years. But I’m not complaining. I still wear my Lions pride!
Now, they finally get a great coach and a new quarterback in Jared Goff. He throws to one of the NFLâs top receivers, Amon-Ra St. Brown. Penei Sewell, Frank Ragnow, and Aidan Hutchinson, and more — they’ve got a team!
You Support A Losing Team Quietly
But here’s what happens: A team gets a few wins under their belt and all the loudmouths start yelling, “They’re going to the Super Bowl!” STAHHHHP!!! Lions fans — and many other fans of underdog teams — are use to losing. So let’s just win some games but quietly. NO JINXING!!!
According to The Conversation, research shows that fans who experience less success with their teams are much more loyal to each other. And there is a strong social connection that is helpful for losing fans.
Bottom line: Fans of losing teams are use to losing in peace. So stop yammering when we win, and let us win quietly! Because that’s all we know.
Carolina Panther fans — we hear your silence, and we understand.
