Dutch Man Banned From Donating Sperm, Fathers Over 500 Children
There are many sperm donation locations all over the world. Men will sometimes do it to help out and most do it to get money. Well with this Dutch man, we’re not sure what his intentions are.
No More Donations From You
His name is Jonathan. Jonathan is 41 years old. He was banned from donating to any fertility clinics located in the Netherlands. This was back in 2017. They found out he probably fathered “more than 100 children,” according to the British Broadcast Channel.
If Jonathan tried to donate, he could be fined €100,000 Euros. That’s about $105,500.
You Fathered How Many Children?
The rules in the Dutch clinical guidelines say that a donor shouldn’t father more than 25 children for 12 families. Believe it or not, there’s a good reason for this. They want to reduce the possibilities that siblings fathered by a donor meets and has children with another one of the donors.
Jonathan was asked to provide all locations that he’s been a sperm donor at. The judge ordered them to destroy all his donations to prevent this from happening. According to BBC, the judges said he helped father 550 to 600 children. That’s from 2007.
How Did He Get On The Radar?
Jonathan the sperm donor could have gone under the radar and kept donating, but a foundation that protects donor children’s rights took him to court. A mother — who Jonathan fathered her child — also took Jonathan to court.
BBC talked to Gert-Mark Smelt, a spokesman for the court. He said, “The Point is that this kinship network with hundreds of half-brothers and half-sisters is much too large.”
More than 100 of the children that Jonathan fathered were from Dutch clinics. The rest were all done by private clinics. So how did he get to continue to father children with his donations, he would lie. They say he misinformed parents looking for donors, about the number of children he fathered in the past, according The Hague District Court.
