The night before a nation observes "Patriot's Day", Queen Latifah moved Sunday Night Football fans with her rendition of our National Anthem! It was the home opener for the New York Giants taking on Dallas. Queen Latifah being from New Jersey herself, was joined by the NYDP/FDNY Joint Choir on the field. Dressed in all white, the performer stood in front of the Joint Choir and delivered to over 80,000 in attendance.
This morning, being 9/11, The Mike & Carla Morning Show thought it only appropriate to feature the moment from last night. With all of her acting, including her new series "The Equalizer", we sometimes forget the voice she really has.
Queen Latifah's Moving Rendition of The Star Spangled Banner
In fact, a lot of people on social media were shocked (SHOCKED) at Latifah's voice! Mainly being known for rapping, most viewers were a little surprised with her voice and range. We're guessing because she's never really put herself out there as a "singer"!
Now that's not to say that she's never sand. Latifah has appeared in movie musical showing off her vocal skills, but that's about it. So for her to take center stage like she did for a moment as it was, it was AWESOME!
The performance was truly inspiring and probably garnered the artist a whole new fan base! Not sure at this point where it will rank compare to Whitney Houston's performance of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 1991. Or even Jennifer Hudson's performance of the anthem at the SB in 2009. Just know that this performance of Queen Latifah's on Sunday, September 10th was special!
It truly was one of those moments that fans will remember for a life time...especially those from that area! for those that missed it, The M&C Morning Show shared it this morning and you can still hear it by hitting PLAY below...and enjoy!
9/11: 5 Inspiring Concert Tributes
In the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks, the music world came together to help raise funds for those affected with two concerts: America: A Tribute To Heroes, which aired on Fox, ABC, NBC and CBS on September 21, 2001 and The Concert For New York City, which aired on VH1 on October 20, 2001 from Madison Square Garden.
These shows provided some of the most moving performances in rock history and helped lift a mourning nation still grieving from such an incredible loss. Here are five of our favorite performances.
Billy Joel - "New York State of Mind" - America: A Tribute to Heroes
Bruce Springsteen - "My City of Ruins" - America: A Tribute to Heroes
Neil Young - "Imagine" - America: A Tribute to Heroes
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - "I Won't Back Down" - America: A Tribute to Heroes
The Who - "Who Are You" - The Concert For New York City
