Hangovers Soon Will Be A Thing Of The Past
Are you tired of hangovers? Or are you not going out to enjoy a night on the town because you don’t want a hangover? Soon, hangovers could be a thing of the past.
It’s Like Non-Alcoholic Alcohol, But With The Alcohol
The Wall Street Journal posted an article about a London company who is working on synthetic alcohol that could soon get rid of hangovers. They’re calling it Alcarelle. The company is call GABS Labs and they’re promising that this synthetic alcohol will allow you to have the same effects of drinking alcohol, but the day-after effects won’t happen.
GABA Labs is named after GABA, or Gamma-aminobutyric acid. Thank you acronyms. Trying to say the name in its entirety would alone probably sober you up. But GABA, they say, is a neurotransmitter. It’s suppose to slow your brain down and produce a relaxing or calming effect. When you drink any type of alcohol, it binds to GABA and causes a “relaxed” and “warm” feeling within the body. It essentially causes you to relax. But, it also messes with your neurotransmitters causing unwanted effects…like hazy brain and being immobile.
Alcarelle, or the synthetic alcohol they’re creating, targets the GABA receptors in your brain. This in return releases dopamine and serotonin. It was supposed to be added to non-alcoholic drinks, but it could be mixed with alcoholic drinks as well.
They say it relaxes you more. It causes you to chat more and allows you to be more social.
When Can We Get Our Hands On It?
GABA Labs are currently trying to collect and raise $10 million. They’re hoping to get United States food-safety testing and complete it by 2026. Then, they’ll launch it in European markets, according to the WSJ.
The bad news is that Americans are drinking less now. In 2021, 63% of Americans said they drank. Gen Zers drank less than millennials, according to University of Michigan and Texas State University.
