Las Vegas Celebrates National Pickleball Day Today!
Never thought this would happen, but it’s here! Las Vegas is celebrating National “Pickleball” Day today! Not sure how many people are playing the sport in Las Vegas, but overall, 36.5 million people have taken up the sport! And if you’re going to start, The Mike & Carla Morning Show suggest today might be the day to do it!
In fact, Mike O’Brian was SHOCKED (shocked) to find out that Carla Rea already has the gear and is ready to go! Now Carla used to love playing tennis, so the next step is “pickleball” of course. And there are plenty of places to place. According to an article by Ricco Torrez-Cortez in the Review Journal, Las Vegas is keeping up with this sport with places to play!
Pick up the paddles and celebrate National Pickleball Day!
Although the sport has been known to attract older people, there has been a surge of 30+ players coming to the courts. According to the article in the RJ, the city has 23 outdoor courts at five parks. The article goes on to say that, “…The city also offers indoor pickleball at two recreation centers and is planning to install courts at the Centennial Hills, Lorenzi, Patriot and Children’s Memorial parks.”
It’s growing so fast in Las Vegas…how fast do you ask? The article mentions how the Las Vegas City Council ultimately approved accepting a $12 million grant from the Bureau of Land Management. All this money to develop a pickleball complex at Wayne Bunker Park in the northwest area of town.
Just know that if you’re looking to get into the sport, there are places to play! There are leagues to join city wide! However, on The M&C Morning Show, one instructor shared his feelings of the sport and we also sampled a “Pickleball” song for the day…so enjoy!
