The Henderson Little League 12 and under team recorded a commanding 6-1 victory over the team from Montana in the first game of the 2023 Little League Baseball® Mountain Region Tournament. They took on the team from Utah on Tuesday evening and beat them 6-3. You can watch the highlights from that victory by clicking here.
Subsequently, on Friday, August 11th, they played the team from Utah again in the finals and walloped them 10-0! In fact, the game was called in the bottom of the fourth inning due to the 10-run rule. Catch the highlights to that game by clicking here.
Little League World Series Has Become A Big Deal
The Little League World Series has really become a big deal. In fact, in 2013, sports broadcasting giant ESPN forked over $60 million dollars to Little League Baseball® for the rights to broadcast the World Series games for eight years. The parties agreed to another 8-year deal for an undisclosed amount in 2020. That’s according to an article by Matt Martell on SI.com.
Not to mention, watching the games on television reminds me of my youth. For the most part, I loved playing sports as a kid. In fact, I still play ice hockey in a Wednesday night recreational league here in Las Vegas. But, back then, baseball was my favorite sport, especially during summer vacation.
Unfortunately, I was never able to join a Little League team in my New York City neighborhood. However, I did play a lot of baseball in the local parks and sandlots. Of course, it would have been nice to be on an organized team and receive some coaching. But we still had lots of fun and those are fond memories.
