Hockey Team Is Excited To Get New Ice Rinks In North Las Vegas
The guys on my hockey team, the Ice-A-Holics, are excited to learn there will be two new ice rinks built soon. We play every Wednesday at the Pepsi Ice Center. We started there in 2005. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, we had to take a few months off. Shortly thereafter, Station Casinos shut down both Texas Station and the Fiesta.
Two New Ice Rinks To Be Built In North Las Vegas
Although the old Texas Station property was utilized as a drive-thru vaccination site during the pandemic, the building no longer stands there. Both Texas Station and the Fiesta Hotel & Casino have been demolished. All that remains on the eastern side of North Rancho Drive at West Lake Mead is the Pepsi (Fiesta) Ice Arena and a parking garage.
Agora Realty now owns the 73-acre site of the former Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho. They have submitted documents with the North Las Vegas Planning Commission to rezone that property.
According to an article by Greg Haas on 8NewsNow.com, Agora Realty is planning to build a family-friendly residential and business community on the south side of Lake Mead Boulevard where Texas Station used to stand. What are they planning for north side?
If approved, plans are to build a rink with two new sheets of ice on property adjacent to the Pepsi Ice Arena where the Fiesta Rancho used to stand. After those are complete, the old ice rink will then transform into a multi-purpose athletic complex.
Plans Include Much More Than Athletic Buildings
The staff at Pepsi Ice Arena is doing their best to keep the rink in good shape. Unfortunately, the condition of the ice and locker rooms has suffered since the demolition of the Fiesta Hotel & Casino. My teammates and I can’t wait for them to build those new rinks.
In addition, the plans for the new “Hylo Park at Lake Mead & Rancho” by Agora Realty look fantastic. They want to build multi-family residential buildings on the site of the old Texas Station Hotel & Casino. Plans also include “a 150-room hotel,” “three restaurants and three bars, fast food restaurants, a convenience store, a car wash, and a childcare center.”
Furthermore, these new businesses should bring over 900 jobs to an area that sorely needs them. Great news all around!
