We’re all fired up and ready for the 4th of July! Americans love to celebrate Independence Day by lighting off fireworks. There are strict laws enforced for having or using illegal fireworks in Nevada. You could end up paying big fines. Nonetheless, leave the illegal stuff to the pros doing the shows on The Strip and Fremont Street.
Legal vs Illegal Fireworks In Nevada
With this in mind, it would be helpful to know whether or not your fireworks are legal. Here’s how you can tell. You must see a “Safe-N-Sane” label on the fireworks packaging. Furthermore, the fireworks must be purchased from a licensed seller. That seller must be doing business out of a fire department approved booth.
Here are some other types of illegal fireworks, just so you know. Firecrackers, Roman candles, and skyrockets. Basically, if it explodes, flies up into the air, or spins around on the ground, you can bet it’s classified as illegal fireworks in Nevada.
LasVegasNevada.gov has an entire webpage listing information about legal vs. illegal fireworks. Did you know it is illegal to purchase fireworks from vendors outside of Clark County? I didn’t. However, if you bought your fireworks in places like Pahrump, Amargosa Valley, or even from Moapa Band of Paiutes, you can’t bring them here.
Where And When Can You Light ‘Em Up
You must remember, fireworks are only legal to be lit up in Clark County from June 28th through 12:01am, July 5th. If you would like to check out safety tips on lighting your “safe-n-sane” fireworks, click here. In fact, even if the fireworks are labeled safe-n-sane, they can still cause serious injuries. Be careful. Always have adult supervision on hand.
You can light your safe-n-sane fireworks on any city street or sidewalk. You can even light ‘em up in city and county parks. However, do not attempt to light them on federal property. That includes recreational areas at Lake Mead, Mount Charleston, Red Rock, or Spring Mountains.
Big Fines Possible For Having Illegal Fireworks
According to an article written by Caitlin Lilly on Fox5Vegas.com, the minimum fine for having, or lighting, illegal fireworks starts at $500 bucks. With this purpose in mind, Clark County agencies are banding together to combat illegal fireworks. This year, there is a “You Light It, We Write It” campaign underway.
Recent state legislation “also allows for fines of up to $10,000 for large amounts of illegal fireworks found within the community.” So, let’s keep everything safe-n-sane this 4th of July. That way, no one gets hurt. Also, your bank account doesn’t get hurt either.
