Referee Shortage For Upcoming Sports Season

Author Morty
June 27th 7:52 AM

This is something that has been happening for a while now, and this year or season for High School football could be affected by it!

Football for youth leagues and even high schools will suffer because of the referee shortage. In fact since 2017, the number of youth umpires and referees have decreased.

For high school, there’s about 50,000 less referees across all sports. This was pre-pandemic! So why are there less referees and umpires? Well it basically comes down to the parents!

They’re seeing a lot of parents showing aggression towards them and even from coaching staff. To the refs and umpires, it’s just not worth the stress. They say its not what it was before. The times of fun and seeing kids thrive are done. Now it’s just constant fighting, arguing, and complaining.

And to give you an idea on what they get paid, its not much per game. Referees make about $66 a youth game and up to to $90 for high school varsity games.

They are looking for more people to sign up though. And no experience is needed.

Miss Hockey Yet? 3 Action-Packed Videos Including Hot Mic On Ice

It’s only been ten days since the Vegas Golden Knights first lifted Lord Stanley’s Cup skyward. Our entire city erupted in unanimous joy. And, at the present time, I already miss hockey. What are we going to do all summer? Let’s enjoy a behind-the-scenes look into the Stanley Cup Finals with a hot mic on the ice!

Hot Mic On Ice In The Stanley Cup Finals

The NHL put hot mics on certain players, coaches, and referees during the Stanley Cup Finals. The battle rages on the ice between the Golden Knights and the Florida Panthers. The hot mic on ice catches little quips during player scrums after the whistle. It catches the refs taking command of these situations. They hand out 10-minute misconducts like they’re handing out candy at Halloween.

The video below also shows you what gets said in the locker before the game. It reveals how players react to what has been happening on the ice between periods. After the game is over, you can see how the winning team celebrates. In like fashion, you can also observe the way the losing team copes and tries to rebound in the next game.

Everyone enjoys behind-the-scenes looks into the sports, businesses, hobbies, or life situations, which appeal to them. That’s why “reality” television shows do so well. The 25-minute video below from NHL.com and YouTube.com is worth your time. Following the Stanley Cup Finals action from opening ceremonies to lifting the trophy is a lot of fun!

Goalies Made Spectacular Saves In The Playoffs

In the second video below, NHL.com provides highlights of the fifteen best saves during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. You’ll see action from the first round through the finals, ranked in order of “incredibleness.” Yes, our very own Adin Hill made the top 15 quite a few times. Laurent Brossoit did too. Spoiler alert: I bet you can guess which of his amazing saves lands at #1.

Game 7 Goes Into Overtime In AHL Calder Cup Finals

Ask any kid who plays hockey growing up. They dream of scoring the big goal to win the championship. Well, an American Hockey League player’s childhood dreams came true last night. The Hershey Bears win the Calder Cup, game 7, in sudden-death overtime. Mike Vecchione is the hero. It’s amazing to watch, thanks to TheAHL.com and YouTube.com. Enjoy!

  • Best Of Mic'd Up - 2023 Stanley Cup Finals

Ya gotta love hearing the players yap at each other during the Stanley Cup Finals. There was no love lost between our Vegas Golden Knights and the Florida Panthers. Hot mics on the ice, on the bench, in the scrums, and in the locker room. It’s worth the 25 minutes to watch the entire video from NHL.com.

  • Top 15 Saves Of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs

A beautiful goal is so spectacular to watch. But sometimes, the amazing saves made by the goalie on what should have been a goal, can be even more incredible. Here are the 15 best saves of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs from NHL.com. And yes, Adin Hill has quite a few incredible saves in this video.

  • AHL Highlights: 2023 Calder Cup Finals Game 7 Goes To Overtime

Congratulations to the Hershey Bears, the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Washington Capitals. They battled the Coachella Valley Firebirds in seven tough games in the Calder Cup Finals. Game 7 goes to overtime. Someone had to be the hero. What a nail-biter for both team’s fans.
