Several VGK Players Already Have Their Names On Stanley Cup
The Vegas Golden Knights could win, and be hoisting hockey’s most coveted prize – the Stanley Cup.
It’s been a very exciting season, and the team has played phenomenally. How nice would it be to see those Golden Knights players names on that cup?
Players who win the cup have their names stamped onto the Stanley Cup, and get to have it for a day. You may not know this, but many VGK players’ names are already on the cup, because they played for other other teams, prior to joining the team. Those players include Chandler Stephenson, Phil Kessel, Alec Martinez, Alex Pietrangelo, Jonathan Quick and Ivan Barbashev.
The Stanley Cup has been on display worldwide, and some players have done some very interesting things with the cup when it’s their turn to have it for the day.
Colorado Avalanche player, Jack Johnson, baptized his three children in the Stanley Cup during his day with it. The baptisms had been planned before the playoffs, but the dates happened to coincide.
Apparently The Canadiens have won the Cup so many times that they don’t even remember if they have it with them. In 1924, the team was on its way to celebrate the victory when they got a flat tire. The team repaired the tire and went on their way. Once they got to the party, they realized that they had left the Cup on the side of the road.
The person responsible for transporting the cup, Mike Bolt with the Hockey Hall of Fame, took the cup and some former NHL players to Afghanistan in 2007. They were literally in a war zone. Bolt says, “There were missiles flying into the base. Most of them hit the road. Obviously, I’m here to tell the story, but for a few minutes there it was a little scary,” said Bolt.
The Stanley Cup is such a prominent figure that it has also “acted” in several T.V. shows, including Boston Legal and 30 Rock.
Hopefully if (when?) the VGK win it, there will be more stories to tell!
