
If you had a baby last year, did you name your baby one of the most popular names? You may have and not even known!
The Social Security Administration released the official list of the most popular baby names of 2022. There are hundreds of lists of baby names put out by hundreds of sites, but those are based off of surveys those sites have run. This is the OFFICIAL list. The SSA gathers all the names of babies who are added to their system for a social security number, and they find the most popular names!
So what are the most popular names of last year? Has it changed from the year before that?
For boys, the top ten names are Noah, Oliver, James, Elijah, William, Henry, Lucas, Benjamin, and Theodore. Liam was the number name for boys.
Girl names, the top ten names were Emma, Charlotte, Amelia, Sophia, Isabella, Ava, Mia, Evelyn, and Luna. The number one girls name for last year was Olivia.
Compared to the top baby names of 2021, the list hasn't really changed much. The only new name to both the boys and girls names was Luna! Luna is Latin for "Moon" and of course Americans love the name at the moment. And if you're not convinced that Luna is a popular name for girls or females, it's also the top name for female dogs, according to the American Kennel Club!
