Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada will host their 21st annual " Walk For Wishes" this month.

The Make-A-Wish organization has been making wishes come true for kids with life threatening diseases since 1980. Our local chapter has been in Las Vegas since 1996. The mission of the organization is to create life-changing wishes for these children with critical illnesses.

They do this through the help of employees and volunteers. These individuals meet with a child and find out what their wish is. Then the organization comes together, with the help of local and national partnerships, to help make the child's wish come true.

With staff, supporters and more than 30,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation throughout the United States has granted over 340,000 wishes worldwide.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation granted its first wish on April 29, 1980. Every year, the foundation celebrates "World Wish Day" to mark the anniversary. This year it is extra special because it's also the first time the famous "Walk For Wishes" event will fall on April 29. The organization is inviting the community to participate in the walk and in the "Wish Across the Valley" campaign that precedes the event.

Local businesses can help grant wishes by participating in the "Wish Across the Valley" campaign.

It's a week-long celebration leading up to "World Wish Day". Local businesses are encouraged to participate by donating a portion of their proceeds to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. If you shop at the following businesses between April 22 - 29, you will be helping the foundation grant wishes for our local kids.

If you are interested in your business participating in the "Wish Across the Valley" campaign, contact Angela at angelah@snv.wish.org.

This year's "Walk For Wishes" will be on Saturday, April 29, at Town Square Las Vegas. The event's goal is to raise $500,000 to help grant life-changing wishes for the more than 250 children waiting. This year's walk will feature the famous Touch-A-Truck event, a petting zoo, face painting, games, food trucks, photo opportunities and characters from favorite children's movies. There will also be a dog-friendly area and a special performance by Broadway In The Hood.

Registration begins at 7:30am and the walk starts at 8:30am. To register, visit WalkForWishesSNV.org.
