April is National Donate Life Month and Nevada Donor Network is hosting it’s annual “Hope Glows” event.
It’s the organization’s 6th annual event and it’s happening at Exploration Peak Park on Saturday, April 29th. Nevada Donor Network holds this event to raise awareness and funds to support their mission to save heal lives through organ, eye and tissue donation.
This event is open to all ages. It will include games and music as well as vendor tables. A Nevada Donor Network representative will be at the event to answer questions about being a donor. They will also provide the opportunity for people to register to be donor heroes.
More than 600 Nevadans are waiting for a lifesaving transplant.
And more than 100,000 people nationwide are waiting for the same. Furthermore, a new name is added to that waiting list every nine minutes. And many don’t survive to see their transplant needs become a reality. Seventeen people in the United States die every day because they don’t get their transplant.
Nevada Donor Network is trying to help lower these numbers. Currently, 62% of Nevadans are registered donors. But more are needed in our state, especially from those in the multicultural communities.
Christina Hernandez, communications and engagement liaison for Nevada Donor Network, joined Wendy on this episode of Talking Solutions to talk about the event. Hernandez discussed the ongoing need for donors in Nevada and explained how tissue donation saves lives. She also gave details about the upcoming event. How people can register, what people can expect from the event, and how funds raised will be used.
Registration is $30 for adults and $15 for children under 10. That fee includes an official “Hope Glows” t-shirt and a foam flow stick. The fun run/walk will begin after sunset but activities will be happening before then. The event is 5 to 8pm at 9700 S. Buffalo Drive.
