Nevada Is The Cheapest State To Start A New Business
A recent study has revealed that Nevada is the least expensive state in our nation in which to start a new business. One of the main reasons our home state scored so high in this study is the 0% corporate tax rate.
According to an article written by KTNV Staff on KTNV.com, a company called Simplify LLC conducted the study based on statistics provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Small Business Administration, and the Census Bureau. The stats show that Nevada business owners pay their workers an average of just under $52,000 each year. The average monthly electric bill in our state runs around $463 dollars and change. Businesses pay a 0% corporate income tax rate, but they do have to pay taxes on their gross receipts.
It is interesting to note that six of the top ten least expensive states in which to start a business are located in the western part of the United States. Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and Arizona are the neighboring states that scored high in this study. The most expensive state in the country to start a business is Minnesota, followed closely by New York, Louisiana and Alabama.
Simplify LLCÂ came up with their scores by reviewing data in “nine business cost-related factors in these categories â basic business costs, labor costs and worker availability, cost of space and utilities, and healthy business environment.” Our state’s lowest score came in the “Qualifications” category which measured the “percentage of post-college age adults with at least a bachelor’s degree.”

The Top 5 States With The Best Work-Life Balance
We all need to work to earn a living. We all need some down time to rest, relax, and recover. So which U.S. states offer the best work-life balance?
According to an article written by Assaf and posted on SolitaireBliss.com, they analyzed the data provided by the 2021 American Time Use Survey. Per Assaf’s article: “To qualify, respondents had to be employed, report time working, and have been interviewed about weekday activities. States with five or fewer respondentsâAlaska, Delaware, and South Dakotaâwere disqualified.”
To determine the average number of hours people in a state spent working, surveyors gathered information such as the amount of time spent at the job, but also the time spent working from home, and travel time to and from work.
To determine the average number of hour respondents spent on leisure activities, surveyors gathered information on relaxing, socializing, playing sports, exercising, recreational activities, and the time spent traveling to and from social and sporting events.
Once they came up with the average number of hours worked by the respondents in a state, they divided that figure by the average number of hours spent doing leisure activities to come up with a final “Work-to-Leisure Ratio.” And, that’s how they finalized the rankings for states with the best work-life balance.
Incidentally, although the number of hours we sleep was not included in the “Work-to-Leisure Ratio” rankings, they did determine that respondents in most states surveyed reported getting eight or more hours of sleep per night. Do you think some respondents lied on that topic? If you would like to review the full report on SolitaireBliss.com, CLICK HERE.
I know you can’t wait to find out if our home state of Nevada ended up in the top five, so let’s see the results!
