Las Vegas is hosting formula one racing. That means the track must be pristine, so - time to finally fill in the potholes!

The countdown to Formula One in Las Vegas is officially on, and crews have begun repaving roads around the Las Vegas Strip. Drivers can expect rolling road closures, with detours and delays over the next several months, while all-new asphalt will poured on a portion of The Strip and nearby streets.

It's a big undertaking to prepare for the Las Vegas Grand Prix this fall, and it has left a lot of residents wondering - yet again -  how much of the work taxpayers will be on the hook for? Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom. says the roads would have needed repairs eventually, so the work being done now will only speed up the process. Umm, okay...

"It's going to be in the millions of dollars," said Segerblom. "But at the end of the day, the amount of money we get back is far surpassed. The degree to consider the- again, the tourism benefit of the advertising worldwide, so it's actually very modest, and we will literally pay for itself the day the race is over."

The Las Vegas Grand Prix will take place Nov. 16-18, and is expected to generate $1 billion in economic impact for Southern Nevada.
