Accelerated Learning Academy Holding Open House For Autism Awareness
April is Autism Awareness and Acceptance month and the Accelerated Learning Academy is kicking it off with an open house.
In partnership with the Learning Education & Achievement Foundation (LEAF), the Accelerated Learning Academy is inviting the community to their event. Held on April 1 from 11am to 3pm, the open house will combine education with entertainment. All to support children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The two organizations have created an all-inclusive program for families who live with autism. The only community partnership of its kind in Southern Nevada, these organizations provide many resources for people with intellectual disabilities, all in one place. Including inclusive education, applied behavior analysis, speech, occupational and physical therapy, and adapted fitness.
Currently, Nevada ranks as the 4th lowest state for raising a child with autism.
The Accelerated Learning Academy and LEAF are trying to change that by providing these resources and financial help to access them. LEAF raises funds to provide scholarships for families to pursue the resources the Accelerated Learning Academy.
100% of the proceeds for the upcoming open house will go toward this goal. Participants will enjoy community resource booths at the open house. In addition, there will be activities for the family such as crafts, face painting and interactive games. There will also be an interactive “wish wall” for children with disabilities and their families.
Dr. Gwen Johnson is a cofounder of the Accelerated Learning Academy. She joined Talking Solutions to give details about the organization. Dr. Johnson elaborated on all the resources available at the facility and gave information about the scholarships available for families. She also spoke about why the academy accepts neurotypical children as well as those who are neurodivergent.
Jennifer Samuel is also a cofounder of the academy. She shared her story as a parent of a child with autism. Jennifer explained how pressing the need was in Nevada for these kinds of resources. She also spoke about how much the Accelerated Learning Academy will help families in Southern Nevada.
