A study was done on Coulrophobia or the fear of clowns. If you say you have no fear of clowns, you may want to rethink that.

The study polled one thousand people of all ages and the result showed that 54% of them were at least a little scared of clowns! Of that 54% of people, 5% said they were "extremely afraid" of clowns!

To find out why they were scared of clowns, they asked the 54% of people who were at least a little scared of them, some follow up questions to find out exactly why clowns freak them out!

  1. Their "Hidden Emotional Signals." The make-up the clowns wear makes it hard to read their emotions, so you don't know if their happy, sad, angry, or just plain Pennywise the situation!
  2. The negative portrayals of them. A good example is the movie "It". The movie made people afraid of them!
  3. Clowns behavior is unknown! You never know what their intentions are so it makes people nervous.
  4. Just like people are afraid of dolls and realistic robots, the same goes for clowns, they don't look human
  5. Their facial features make them look or seem threatening
  6. Some clowns make-up reminds people of death, disease, and blood
  7. Some say the fear of clowns rubbed off on them by parents, family members, or friends
  8. They had a traumatizing encounter with a clown in their younger years

So now that you've read eight reasons for having a fear of clowns, do you think you may fall into that 54% of people? We have more on this story and others in today's edition of a Few Things You Should Know!
